A Girl For All Time Medieval Gown
Quantity
The creation of this outfit was inspired by the historian Ruth Goodman from the BBC series Tudor Monastery Farm. I really wanted to create clothes, which were worn by middle-class women who lived at that time. When designing the outfit, I was guided by patterns from the book "The Tudor Tailor : Reconstructing 16th Century Dress".
For sewing you need the following fabrics:
- thin cotton for chemise
- dense linen of two shades for a cap and a dress . I recommend to sew a dress of one color (for example, blue, dark red, gray), and a cap and cuffs - of another (white, beige, gray). If you take a fabric like thin cashmere or felt, which is easily draped, it is better to use ordinary cotton to pad the bodice.
If you take a thinner fabric for the whole dress, then it will look a little too big, because initially, the pattern is designed for dense material - I wanted to recreate the feeling of warmth and comfort of this clothing as accurately as possible.
