Guaco is also known as guaco-cheiroso, liana-mocca, liana-caatinga or snake-grass, it is a species native to Brazil, and is cultivated throughout the national territory, but in greater quantity in the Atlantic Forest biome.
Guaco has always been well known by Brazilian Indians, who used the plant to fight snake venom (hence some of its popular names). Even today, in some regions of Brazil, the macerate of the leaves is applied as a poultice on the bites of snakes and other venomous animals.
Therapeutic properties: antioxidant, antimicrobial, immunomodulatory, allelopathic, astringent, sudorific, and expectorant.
Therapeutic indications: kidney and urinary tract disorders (nephritis, urethritis, cystitis, uric acid, albuminuria), chilblains, itching, rheumatic and arthritic pain, gout, neuralgia and bruises, menstrual cramps, and gallstones.
