Item description from the seller

In 66 BC, Julius Caesar undertook the restoration of the ancient Via Appia, a strategic road from Rome to Brindisi. By currying favor with citizens along the route, Caesar aimed to bolster his authority. Subsequently, as a military leader, he traversed the Via Appia to engage in Roman civil wars. This historic road, alongside its counterpart Via Egnatia in present-day Albania, facilitated the movement of armies in the ancient world.

These roads, crucial for military campaigns, eventually connected Rome to Byzantium (modern Istanbul). The emperor Trajan further enhanced this network by establishing the Via Traiana, a coastal route from Benevento to Brindisi. Today, remnants of these roads can be found in the ruins of ancient Roman cities, offering glimpses into the past. Some sections are preserved as archaeological sites, while others lie beneath modern highways, emphasizing the enduring impact of these ancient routes.

Traveling along these paths provides a unique opportunity to witness history's imprints. As one follows in the footsteps of Caesar and other historical figures, modern perspectives reveal the convergence of past and present.

The journey spans six countries, offering a tangible connection to the ancient world and the strategic significance of these roads in shaping the course of history over more than two millennia. ๐Ÿ“–๐Ÿ’–
