About this item
Learn how to make this top-down raglan-style crochet cardigan featuring geometric motifs and fun colorwork. A non conventional crochet pattern that will help you learn two easy new techniques!
This is an easy and relaxing project that will let you fully enjoy the making process while still creating a modern, colorful garment. I LOVE how shades and textures combine into this artwork, embellished by crochet-through details for a hand-embroidered effect ^.^

This fabulous cardigan is also a truly versatile design: I styled a short version in wool mix in earthy colours and used it as a cardigan, and a longer version in brighter colours and lighter fibers to use as a beach robe - the perfect accessory for a romantic summer getaway or a day at the beach club!

The pattern comes for sizes XS to 5XL and three length variations for a versatile outfit and more personalisation; it includes 6 charts, 30+ detailed pictures and two video tutorials for easy and stress-free making; suitable for advanced beginner crocheters and up.
You will only need 3.00 and 3.50mm hooks and a yarn of your choice in DK, 4 ply or fingering in 6 colours.

With this design you will learn two new techniques:
(1) a special colorwork technique that combines and alternates two strings of yarn of contrasting colours to make one stitch;
(2) a crochet-through technique that adds a bit of texture and makes the colorwork truly pop out

MORE DETAILS:

DIFFICULTY LEVEL: advanced beginner
This pattern explains how to make the Izma crochet cardigan in size XS to 5XL. The cardigan is made top-down, raglan style; we will begin with the yoke, then we will continue down the bust, the details, and then sleeves and ribbing.
The whole piece will be worked in rows or rounds of UK treble crochet stitches [US double crochet]; the only exception is the beginning of the yoke and the ribbing.

This design features three colourwork motifs, alternated with 5 rows in the main colour only. For one colourwork motif you’ll find a link to a video tutorial for extra clarity.
Instructions for each size are indicated with different colour font.

As this cardigan features three colorwork motifs, it is important that you choose your palette and colour combinations wisely to make the motifs truly stand and pop out. You will need six colours in total. A base colour to start with. Then, I recommend picking two colours that are similar to the base colour, with one a few tones lighter and the other a few tones darker. Finally, you’ll need three contrasting colours.

YARN I USED
For this project I used a 4-ply Cascade 220 Fingering, Cascade Yarns, 100% wool, 50g (1.8oz) - 250m (273yds), in the following colours:
- Highland Green (9430) – BASE colour (B)
- Lemon Pepper (1079) – LIGHTER base (L)
- Midnight (1032) – DARKER base (D)
- Beige (8021) – CONTRASTING colour #1 (C1)
- Ember Heather (9619) – CONTRASTING colour #2 (C2)
- Goldenrod (7827) – CONTRASTING colour #3 (C3)

A perfect alternative in cotton is Scheepjes Catona - 100% Cotton, 125m (137yds)/50g (1.8oz), 4 Ply.

You can choose between 3 different lengths: short cardi (waist length), mid-length cardi (hip lenght) and beach robe (long). The yarn needed depends on the size and length you choose.

For example, for a size M, mid-length cardi, I used 6 skeins of Cascade 220 Fingering in base colour and 1 (or less) skein for each contrasting colours.

As a reference, here an overview of how many skeins you would need in the main colour for each size: XS: 4; S: 4 and half; M: 5 and half; L: 5 and half; XL:6; 2XL: 7; 3XL: 8; 4XL: 9; 5XL: 10
