About this item

Through the efforts of the State Tretyakov Gallery, the National Kiev-Pechersk Historical and Cultural Reserve, the National Art Museum of the Republic of Belarus, an attempt was made to show not only the national identity, but the kinship of the fine arts of three fraternal peoples with the same roots, common origins and a common mentor - Byzantium, using the example of 89 Orthodox icons of the XIV-first half of the XIX centuries. Developing in different historical conditions, Russian, Ukrainian and Belarusian icon painting has become an outstanding phenomenon in the cultures of their countries. The publication is prepared for the exhibition "Orthodox Icon of Russia, Ukraine, Belarus", the opening of which is timed to the Days of Slavic writing and the celebration of the memory of the teachers of "Slovenian" Cyril and Methodius. His greetings from the hierarchs of the Orthodox Church begin. Sections "Russia. The State Tretyakov Gallery", "Ukraine. National Kyiv-Pechersk Historical and Cultural Reserve", "Belarus. The National Art Museum of the Republic of Belarus" presents monuments of icon painting from museum collections, introduces the spiritual heritage, a variety of styles and trends.
