The image of the Virgin with the rare name "Ponolytrias" was built on the outside of the western wall of the Church of Theodora (Serres). On it, the Blessed Virgin is depicted on the front, with her hands raised in the position of prayer. Most scientists agree that the image can be dated to the XI century.
The image of the Virgin Ponolytreas remained on the western wall of the Church of St.Theodora before the beginning of 1917 AD, but after the death of Metropolitan Bishop Christodoul of Serres, which occurred on January 14/27, 1917, the Bulgarians who occupied these places stole many things from the churches of the city of Serres, which were used by the army for warehouses. Including the missing image.
In 1919 AD, the image, which was considered lost, was discovered and brought to the Cathedral of the Archangels.
