The Serbian Orthodox Church and Orthodox churches that use the old calendar mark today (August, 28) the feast of the Dormition of the Virgin Mary or the Dormition of the Most Holy Theotokos. The Great Lady (Velika Gospojina) is known as the mother's and children's holiday.
Today, in Orthodox churches using the old calendar, the feast of the memorial of the mother of God Mary is celebrated. The official name of the holiday is the Dormition of the Most Holy Theotokos.

The Holy Scripture does not give knowledge of the end of the earthly life of the Theotokos. According to tradition and writings, which have no sacred character, it is believed that the mother of God lived in Jerusalem for the rest of her life, after the death and resurrection of Christ, surrounded by the attention of the apostles and the first Christian community.

According to other unconfirmed sources, the Theotokos traveled in the regions of today's Middle East, and thus reached the Holy Mountain.

As the holiday is preceded by a two-week fast, today believers, especially women, take communion, generally speaking, this day is considered a holiday of women and mothers.

A large number of churches and monasteries of the Serbian Orthodox Church celebrate this holiday as their own glory. In Montenegro, two large councils for this holiday are in the Monasteries of Piva and Moraa.
