The Play follows Hunter Davenport, Briar U's new hockey team captain, who is determined to stay focused on hockey and school after a season lost to distractions. He's sworn off women—at least for now. That is, until he meets Demi Davis, a witty and gorgeous classmate who becomes his friend.

But when Demi becomes single and seeks a rebound, Hunter finds himself torn between resisting his attraction to her and the undeniable chemistry between them. As they’re paired for a yearlong project, Hunter must battle his growing feelings, knowing a hookup could complicate everything.
