Historical information: The La-5 fighter has appeared under circumstances not absolutely usual if not to tell drama, for design collective led by S.A. Lavochkin. LAGG-3 fighter. for which release and improvement this design office was responsible, in view of insufficient efficiency laid off. And existence of CB has appeared questionable now. Of course, designers perfectly understood the nature of shortcomings of LAGGA and already conducted project works on his radical modification. Along with need of sharp improvement of flight data, the main thing in this case there was an efficiency and the requirement of continuity of a design of LAGG-3 and his new modification. Only when performing these conditions it was possible to transfer the plant to production of the new plane before on the conveyor there is (as well as it was planned) a fighter the Yak. And CB S.A Lavochkina has coped with this task successfully.
