This item simply attaches to several models of refrigerators with interior water dispensers, making dispensing water a one-handed operation. Compatible refrigerator makes include Whirlpool, KitchenAid, and Maytag. This item is not compatible with GE refrigerators.
Follow the steps below and refer to the listing photos to determine which attachment style to print (Screw-on or Clip-on).
1. Remove cover cap above the water dispenser button. Depending upon your particular model, either pull up and then out, or pull straight out.
2. Inspect housing looking for the presence or absence of the hole (see photos).
3. If no hole is present, print the "Screw-on" style. The screw-on style requires removing the existing screw and replacing it with a slightly longer one (no new hole is made in your refrigerator). I recommend using a No. 8, 7/8" long, flat head screw for sheet metal.
4. If hole is present, select either "Clip-on" or "Screw-on" style. No fastener is required for the Clip-On style. Just snap the part in place of the cover cap.
Note: Pull cup away from dispenser slowly to avoid dripping as shown in the short video.
Note: The screw-on style dispenser lever requires a longer, replacement screw. I recommend using a No. 8, 7/8" long, flat head screw for sheet metal.
Note: The angle of the lever determines when the water will dispense. Not all refrigerators are exactly the same. The screw-on style allows for some adjustment in when the button will activate, helping to avoid spilling for some refrigerators. Included are multiple models with angle variants. If you have issues with water dripping or not dispensing, try the relevant variant (see instructions included with download).
Note: In order to increase compatibility with certain refrigerator models, the latest main design has a shortened paddle. The longer paddle version is also included with the download.
3D Printing Recommendations:
Full print recommendations are included with the download as "Instructions.txt".
I recommend printing this model on an FDM 3D printer with PLA, supports (45 degree, auto-generated should work), a brim, and 100% infill. The hinge design requires the part to be oriented on its side while printing as shown in the listing photo. The file format is .3MF (3D Manufacturing Format) which is similar to .STL files. I recommend using PrusaSlicer, since that is the software I used to configure most of the print settings in the .3MF files. File or sand away all sharp edges after printing.
There are several models included in this digital download each with different "lever angles". Different 3D printers and refrigerator models will have slightly different results. Try the default "Lever_Screw-on_0.5 Degrees_v11.0.7.3mf" or "Lever_Clip-on_2 Degrees_v11.0.7.3mf" first. I found that these versions worked best on my refrigerator. If the lever is fully depressed and doesn't activate the button or the water continues to run after you pull away from underneath the nozzle, try the relevant variants.
By default, the length of the paddle is shortened to avoid a possible drawer interference on some refrigerator models. If your refrigerator has enough clearance to open the drawer beneath the water dispenser, I recommend using the "Longer Paddle" version for ease of use.
