The science and treatment of psychological disorders consists of a balance and integration of research and clinical application, the use of paradigms as organizing principles, and involving learners in solving real-world problems in which clinicians and scientists are engaged. Students learn that psychopathology is best understood by considering multiple perspectives, and that these various perspectives most clearly explain the causes of these disorders and provide the best possible treatment.
