Annotation: The first part of a large monograph on the open openings of grandmaster P. Keres. It covers in detail the opening moves 1. e4 e5 2. Kf3 Nc6. Of the various continuations possible on the 3rd move, the moves of the bishop fl to c4 and b5, the move of the knight b1 to c3, and also an attempt at a direct blow to the center with 3. d2-d4 were considered. The options proposed in the book are a systematized (in accordance with the views of the author) selective and, of course, critical processing of the vast material that the theory and practice of chess has revealed mainly over the past half century and which in its totality constitutes what is commonly called " opening theory”, including the Evans Gambit.

Annotation: This book is a direct continuation and completion of The Theory of Open Openings, the first part of which was published in 1949. Only a part of the open openings was covered there, but here are analyzes of the rest of the open openings, including the king's gambit, which is currently reappearing in the practice of the masters.
