Russian icon Key of Understanding.
This fabulous Russian orthodox icon is made of solid wood using an ancient Russian technique with transverse beams, which prevent the curvature of the wood over time. This handcrafted icon - Key of Understanding, has been produced using paint and decoupage methods. The halos are painted with fine colors similar to pure gold.

The Most Holy Mother of God is depicted on this icon in full growth; the key is drawn at the bottom of the icon. Before it, they perform prayers before the beginning of the teachings of the young, and also pray in cases where children notice a weak development of mental abilities necessary for the assimilation of the sciences taught to them. That is why it is called the “Key of Knowledge”. This image is honored locally and is now in the cemetery church of Balakhna, Nizhny Novgorod province.
