KING THEODEN:

King Theoden, born in Gondor in 2980, was the seventeenth King of Rohan and had been reigning for 40 years when the War of the Ring began. When the character is introduced to Aragorn, Gandalf, Legolas, and Gimli, his mind is under control of Saruman the White, with the aid of Grima Wormtongue. Eventually, he is able to break free of this control and takes back his power over Rohan. Spurred by the anger over his son’s death, Theoden reinstates his banished nephew and heir, Eomer, and successfully defeats Saruman’s army at the Battle of Helm’s Deep.
