The icon of the Mother of God is a shrine in the city of Zarvanytsia, located in Western Ukraine, dating back to the middle of the 17th century.
According to legend, after the devastation of Kiev by the Tatar hordes, one monk, fleeing from the attackers, ended up in unknown places above the Strypa River. Exhausted to the point of exhaustion, he prayed to the Mother of God to take him under her care. Calmed by prayer, he fell asleep. In a dream, the Most Pure Virgin Mary and two angels with white lilies in their hands appeared to him. The monk fell on his knees before the Mother of God, and she, smiling, touched him with the omophorus. The monk woke up in a magical valley surrounded by a dense forest. Struck by the beauty of the area, he saw an icon of the Most Holy Mother of God with Jesus in her arms above the source, which was glowing. The monk stayed there. Later, he built a chapel where he placed an icon; later, a church and a monastery were built here.
The village that arose near this holy place was called Zarvanytsia. According to legend, the icon repeatedly stopped enemy attacks, and the water from the spring healed the crippled and the sick.
