Hopper Vale embarks on his first day as a diver of the vast wasteland outside of the domed city of Ledicia known as the Fallow. Years of training has led to his first expedition under the guidance of Commander Kit Corsac. On a mission to retrieve data from civilization before the Scorch, Hopper must grapple with his sense of self as a dangerous encounter leaves him stranded in the wastes with no way home.

Arrow Elmie is an expert technician working as a contractor under Providence, a mysterious but powerful organization that oversees the city’s safety. Haunted by a past love and life on the edge of a rebellious faction, her life of calm complacency is thrown out of balance when she is assigned a broken piece of tech to repair. Old names and ideals come creeping back to the forefront of her mind as what should have been a simple assignment has reopened doors she long thought closed.

The pair’s lives run parallel, each exploring who they want to be in this desperate world. Both stumble upon secrets that should have stayed buried, as each individual's discoveries could lead to revelations that shake the very foundation that Ledicia was built upon.
