Saint David the Prophet was born in Bethlehem and was king of Israel. David was distinguished in a battle between the Philistines and the Jaws when he fought with the giant Goliath and defeated him with a stone that he had in his sling. The people of Israel glorified him after his victory and anointed him king after the death of Soul. He reigned for 38 years and died in the year 962 BC. His son Solomon succeeded him to the throne.
