Ivan Hryhorovych Los (September 23, 1904, Sokilka village, now in Kobeliaky district, Poltava region - April 26, 1985, Kyiv) was a renowned painter. He was a member of the Union of Artists of Ukraine (1939) and a participant in World War II, for which he received military awards.
Los graduated from the Kyiv Art Institute in 1928, where he studied in the workshop of F. Krychevsky. In 1926, he erected a monument to T. Shevchenko in his native village. He worked in Kyiv as the head of the animation department of the film studio (1928-32), in the theater of the military district, and as the chief artist of the painting-sculpture combine (1948-58). He also served as the chairman of the Art Council (1955-71) of the Art Fund of the Ukrainian SSR.
He participated in regional, all-Ukrainian, and all-Union art exhibitions since 1937. His main field was easel painting, including portraits, landscapes, and paintings on literary and historical themes. Some of his works are preserved in the National Museum of T. Shevchenko, the National Museum of History of Ukraine (both in Kyiv), the Museum of History of the Battle of Poltava, the Mykolaiv and Sumy Art Museums, the Lubny Gallery of Fine Arts, the Chernihiv Literary Memorial Museum of M. Kotsiubynsky, the Kobeliaky Museum of Literature and Art, and the Museum of T. Shevchenko in Canada (Toronto).
