The story of two people falling in love is a common question asked to couples. Everyone hopes for a funny, engaging, and romantic story that intertwines the fates of strangers and begins their love adventure. However, not every relationship is seasoned with anecdotes and light narration; sometimes it starts from a broken heart. Even two.
Daphne loves books and her work in the library. Raised by her mom, she has a great relationship with her, which she can't say about her father. She thought Peter was the one with whom she would build a life like a dream. A beautiful home, children, stable employment, and a peaceful life - that's what she always wanted. When her world shakes, the introverted Daphne struggles to stand on her own.
Miles seems to be the opposite of Daphne. Not very organized, with a mysterious job, liking to loosen up - that's the first impression upon meeting him. And yet he has an incredible ability to win people over. Like few others, he exudes nurturing, care for others, or warmth, although, like everyone else, he hides his demons at the bottom of his heart. Will he manage to find a common language with his accidental roommate?
'Funny Story' doesn't really belong to funny stories; it's a book of reflection, with a message flowing to the reader that won't fade from memory moments after it's set aside - no, it will stay in the reader's heart and thoughts for a long time. I love Henry's work, but this one dethroned my favorite, 'Book Lovers,' and I rate it as the author's best offering. It starts apparently banally, with a canceled wedding and two broken hearts, but in this story, there's nothing really banal. It's a beautifully written tale of people experienced by life, who have difficulty trusting - not only others but themselves as well. Henry raises the issue here of people appearing in our lives momentarily, which is a natural element of human destinies, but if one experiences losses in excess, then one can start to wander.
