The Hutsul cross necklace pendant was made in Ukraine. From ancient times, it was believed that the cross is a symbol of the unity of the four earthly elements: earth and fire, air and water. The bronze cross necklace also reveals the relationship between time and space, energy and information. The equilateral gutzul cross is a sign of human harmony with the world.
This handmade ukrainian cross is an example of high-quality ukrainian traditional bronze jewelry.
Dimensions: 26x28 mm (1" x 1.1"), weight about 3 g
The "cross" belongs to the oldest signs that symbolize the creation of the world. Known since the Stone Age, it is a sign of the three-dimensionality of the universe: a full cross is a three-dimensional spatial symbol, as it is formed by the intersection of two planes. The vertical line of the cross is a heavenly, spiritual, active, masculine line. This is a fire sign. The horizontal line is earthly, passive, feminine. This is a water sign. At the crossing (unification) of these two principles, a third force arises — the force of Life, Love, Creation. The cross is able to spread infinitely in any direction, so it also means eternal life. In the ancient beliefs of the Stone Age, the cross was associated with the God of the earth, signified the 4 directions of the world, 4 winds, 4 elements, and also personified the Tree of Life and the world axis. Later, in the Bronze Age, it became an emblem of the Sun (in the form of Svarga), fire (kres - fire, kresat - to get fire).
It is also believed that the graphic designation of this sign comes from a schematic representation of a flying bird, since in ancient mythology the Sun was identified with it. In Christianity, the cross is a powerful symbol of sanctification and purification, a symbol of the New Testament, a symbol of the victory of life over death. This is a holy sign of redemption, with which the church begins, blesses and sanctifies everything. Therefore, it has the first place among Christian symbols.
