About this item
The Germanics, Celts, Italics, Slavs, Balts, Indo-Aryans, Greeks etc. all came from a single folk, which is now called the Proto-Indo-Europeans. The Lisichansk stele is an ancient Indo-European idol that belongs to the early Catacomb culture. This archaeological culture was widespread in the Northern Black Sea region in the 3rd millennium BC. The Catacomb culture is associated with the ancestors of the ancient Hellenes, but the religion of the Catacomb folk must have been much closer to the Proto-Indo-European one. The Lisichansk idol was discovered in a burial mound near the city of Lisichansk (Ukraine) in 2007. It depicts an Indo-European deity with a solar sign on her chest and solar symbolism. What is depicted on the reverse side may be associated with the symbolism of Axis Mundi - the World Axis. The sun is depicted on the upper celestial level, weapons are depicted on the middle terrestrial level, and the lower one, apparently, is a heavenly body that has descended into the underworld. Of all the Indo-European steles, only the Lisichansk stele is endowed (and so generously) with solar symbols, including symbols of the Solar Wheel.
