About this item
A hand-made Riasny cross brass necklace pendant was made of brass, double-sided, with the image of periwinkle flowers.
A cross "riasny" is a traditional decoration of the in central Ukraine region. Traditionally, "riasny" crosses are crosses with four rays ending in a knob, decorated with engraving. An image of a flower was placed at the lower end. On holidays, women dressed in necklaces with dukaches and abundant crosses, which were worn on top of their clothes.
The cross is first of all a symbol of life, the salvation of the soul and the power of human faith. In Christianity, it is a symbol of the Crucifixion of the Lord Jesus Christ and the salvation he brought to mankind; also a funeral sign as a request to God to have mercy on the deceased and grant him eternal life.
The "cross" belongs to the oldest signs that symbolize the creation of the world. Known since the Stone Age, it is a sign of the three-dimensionality of the universe: a full cross is a three-dimensional spatial symbol, as it is formed by the intersection of two planes. The vertical line of the cross is a heavenly, spiritual, active, masculine line. This is a fire sign. The horizontal line is earthly, passive, feminine. This is a water sign. At the crossing (unification) of these two principles, a third force arises — the force of Life, Love, Creation. The cross is able to spread infinitely in any direction, so it also means eternal life. In the ancient beliefs of the Stone Age, the cross was associated with the God of the earth, signified the 4 directions of the world, 4 winds, 4 elements, and also personified the Tree of Life and the world axis. Later, in the Bronze Age, it became an emblem of the Sun (in the form of Svarga), fire (kres - fire, kresat - to get fire).
It is also believed that the graphic designation of this sign comes from a schematic representation of a flying bird, since in ancient mythology the Sun was identified with it. In Christianity, the cross is a powerful symbol of sanctification and purification, a symbol of the New Testament, a symbol of the victory of life over death. This is a holy sign of redemption, with which the church begins, blesses and sanctifies everything. Therefore, it has the first place among Christian symbols.
Since ancient times, it was believed that the cross is a symbol of the unity of the four earthly elements: earth and fire, air and water. Also, the handmade cross jewelry reveals the relationship between time and space, energy and information. This christian cross jewellery is a sign of human harmony with the world.
