The icon shows the image of the Mother of God with a Baby in a rare outburst, when Christ was depicted sleeping in His arms Mothers. The gentle face of the Virgin reflects deep spiritual sorrow. Her sad gaze fixed on her Son indicates that She is aware of His upcoming suffering. The Mother of God carefully guards the calm infant sleep of Christ, the Savior of the world. As a mother protects the peace of her child, so the Mother of God will calm everyone who turns to Her with words of prayer in their spiritual and bodily sorrows, and will send him Her heavenly help and protection. Perhaps the name of the icon is connected with this.
The icon was painted in the late XVIII – early XIX century. It is kept on the Holy Mount Athos. In Russia, one of the lists from the icon is located in the St. John's Monastery in St. Petersburg.
