About this item

This written crochet patterns bundle (in US terms) provides instructions to make an elephant rattle, a unicorn rattle, and a panda rattle.

Elephant Rattle:

The handle of the rattle is about 12 cm long, and is easy for little hands to grasp. A large bell inside the head (with three smaller bells placed inside) makes a jingle noise when the rattle is shaken, and cellophane inside the ears makes them crinkle when moved. A satin ribbon tail is a nice 'feely' detail for babies to play with.

The pattern calls for a 5.00 mm crochet hook, and 4 ply yarn in three colours (however, any number of colours could be used, depending on your choice), of which double strands are used throughout. A total of less than 50 g of 4 ply yarn is used to make the rattle. As a substitute, a single strand of chunky yarn could be used (also with a 5.00 mm hook), to give the same result.

Additional materials required are:

- darning needle
- teddy filling
- large bell, approximately 20 mm in diameter
- three small bells, approximately 5 mm in diameter
- very small zip lock plastic bag
- cellophane (or foil from teabag package)
- 15 cm satin ribbon, approximately 15 mm in width
- small amount of black yarn (DK)

Unicorn Rattle:

The handle of the rattle is about 12 cm long, and is easy for little hands to grasp. A large bell inside the head (with two smaller bells placed inside) makes a jingle noise when the rattle is shaken, and cellophane inside the horn makes it crinkle when moved or squeezed. Textured or satin ribbons for mane and tail are nice ‘feely’ details for babies to play with.

The pattern calls for a 4.00 mm crochet hook, and DK yarn in three colours: silver, rainbow, and white.

Additional materials required are:

- darning needle
- teddy filling
- large bell, approximately 20 mm in diameter
- two small bells, approximately 10 mm in diameter
- very small zip lock plastic bag
- cellophane (or other ‘crinkly-sounding’ plastic)
- 1 m pink textured/satin ribbon, approximately 5 mm in width
- 1 m yellow textured/satin ribbon, approximately 5 mm in width
- 1 m green textured/satin ribbon, approximately 5 mm in width
- 1 m blue textured/satin ribbon, approximately 5 mm in width
- small amount of black yarn (DK)

Panda Rattle:

The handle of the rattle is about 11 cm long, and is easy for little hands to grasp. A large bell inside the head (with two smaller bells placed inside) makes a jingle noise when the rattle is shaken. A loop for the tail is a nice 'feely' detail for babies to hold and play with.

The pattern calls for a 3.50 mm crochet hook, black and white DK yarn, as well as seven different yarn colours (also DK), to create a rainbow effect: a shade of dusty pink, pale orange, pale yellow, mint green, turquoise, pale blue, and lilac.

Additional materials required are:

- darning needle
- teddy filling
- large bell, approximately 20 mm in diameter
- two small bells, approximately 10 mm in diameter
- very small zip lock plastic bag
