Handmade ukrainian pin based on one of Taras Shevchenko's most famous paintings "Kateryna" (1842). The poem of the same name by T. Shevchenko was the basis of the painting Kateryna.
It depicts the exact moment when the Russian officer leaves Kateryna, leaves for the war, and she, already pregnant, with her head down and unable to see anything from her tears, returns to the village. In one of the letters to G. S. Tarnovsky, Shevchenko writes, "in the Tsarina, under the chimney, the grandfather sits, scrapes his spoons and looks sadly at Kateryna, and she, being kind, does not cry... and the Muscovite is beating himself up, only lying in a smoky bed; the dog catches up with him a little bit and pretends to bark. On one side is a grave, on the grave is a windmill, and there only the steppe dreams. That's my picture."
This ukrainian brooch is the result of very accurate and painstaking work of Ukrainian masters.
