Saint Timothy was one of the seventy apostles who formed the widest circle of disciples of Jesus Christ. Born in Lystra of Lycaonia, he was orphaned by his father at a very young age and was raised according to the requirements of Christianity by his grandmother Lois. He accompanied the Apostle Paul on his second apostolic tour and worked diligently to spread the Gospel.
Saint Timothy was martyred by pagans in Ephesus. Fragments of the Holy Relic of the Saint are found in the Monastery of Panteleimon on Mount Athos. The Orthodox Christian Church commemorates him on January 22 of each year.
