Birds symbolize the element of air, and air, as you know, is light and can penetrate everywhere. Birds connect the earthly and heavenly worlds (and waterfowl - as many as three worlds: also the water element in addition). They possess the secrets of a magical potion, living and dead water, know the direction of storm and storm clouds. They fly to the yard where a child has just been born and predict its future fate.
