About this item
Ancient Greek hoplite shield with hand painted winged lion. This authentic Greek hoplite warrior shield has a 36” round diameter but can be made to your specs. Constructed using the concentric ring method from poplar wood based on the real hoplite shield found in the Vatican museum. Face of shield is wet formed and stretched with 2-3oz grade A veg tanned leather. Inside of shield is lined with black felt. Hand painted with gold and black Angelus paint depicting a golden winged lion and sealed with a waterproof satin sealer. Shield’s outer rim is also wood wrapped and wet formed with leather and attached with epoxy adhesive and brass nails. Rim is covered with 2-3 oz leather with a raised Greek key design in gloss black finish. Propax and handle are 22 gauge brass and leather stained in black adorned with red rope and tassels.
