Most of the information about Firosman's life was collected after his death. He was born in a peasant family (in the village of Mirzaan , now in the municipality of Dedoplistskaro , Kakheti ). His childhood best friend was Levan Kalmakhelidze, who taught him how to draw. who moved to Shulaveri early. After the death of his parents, Firosmani moved to Tbilisi. As a child, he showed a great interest in painting, he even drew a lot. He did not receive a special artistic education. In the 1880s, self-taught G. Together with Zaziashvili , he opened a painting workshop and took orders for signs. 1890 - 1894He worked as a conductor on the Transcaucasian railway, then he tried his luck in trade. At the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries, he took refuge with Tbilisi midwives and mikites, painted signs, portraits, and pictures on their order. He could not escape hardship until the end of his life; From time to time, the society of Georgian artists tried to alleviate his fate. However, Firosman died in solitude and his grave remained unknown. There is a street named after him in Tbilisi .

Fisherman in a Red Shirt presents an image of a typical young man of the day. Standing in a river, the man holds a fish in one hand and a bucket in the other. He is portrayed wearing simple clothes and a hat. At first sight there is nothing unusual yet there is a sense of mystery about him that captivates the beholder. What makes the man’s dark eyes – painted with a couple of mere brushstrokes – so telling? Is it daytime or night-time? If it is daytime, why is there so much black in the picture? If it is at night, how come the red shirt and yellow hat shine so brightly in the darkness?
