About this item

"I know where you dwell, where Satan's throne is; you hold fast my name and you did not deny my faith even in the days of Antipas my witness, my faithful one, who was killed among you, where Satan dwells." — Revelation 2:13 (RSV)

Saint Antipas was the bishop of Pergamum, or Pergamon, in Asia Minor (modern Turkey), and a disciple of the Apostle John. He was martyred in AD 92, burned to death on the altar of a pagan god. His feast day is celebrated April 11. This 13th-century icon was painted at the Monastery of Saint Catherine at Mount Sinai.

The icon was consecrated by the provost of the Russian Orthodox church of St.Seraphim in Moscow.
