The Serbian Orthodox Church and its faithful today ( August, 19 ) celebrate the Feast of the Transfiguration of our Lord Jesus Christ. This holiday in its theme is associated with significant events from the life of Christ, which occurred shortly before his suffering and glorious Resurrection.
In order to show his divine power and glory to the apostles in a visible way, Jesus brought his close disciples Peter, James and John to Mount Tabor, transforming himself in front of them, thereby showing them His Divine glory and power.
According to the testimonies recorded in the Gospels at the time of the transfiguration, his face shone like the sun, and his clothes became white as light. The apostles testify that the Old Testament prophets Moses and Elijah also appeared at that time.
On this day, grapes are also consecrated, which are then distributed to the faithful as a blessing.
