ABOUT AUTHOR:
Konstantin Alexeyevich Krylov (April 21, 1910, Strelna, now part of St. Petersburg – August 28, 1992, Kiev) was a Ukrainian painter.
He was the husband of Taisiya Zhaspar, and the father of Konstantin Krylov. He participated in the Second World War and received military awards.
He was a member of the Union of Artists of the USSR since 1945. He studied at the Odessa State Art Institute (1930–34; teachers: P. Volokidin, T. Fraerman),
and graduated from the Kiev Art Institute (1941; teacher: F. Krichevsky). In 1937, he was arrested and sentenced to five years of imprisonment for slander
against the Soviet authorities. He was rehabilitated in 1939. He took part in republican art exhibitions since 1945. He had a personal exhibition in Kiev in 1980.
His artistic works include thematic paintings, portraits, and landscapes. His Shevchenko-themed works are marked by the features of socialist realism, using
the traditions of genre painting of the second half of the 19th century, illustrative interpretation of the poet’s image, and critical evaluation of reality.
In 1950 and 1951, he painted copies of the portrait of Taras Shevchenko made by I. Kramskoy in 1871, and in 1955, he copied his “Self-portrait” (1861).
Some of his canvases are preserved in the National Museum of Taras Shevchenko (Kiev), the National Reserve “The Homeland of Taras Shevchenko”
(Shevchenkove village, Zvenigorod district, Cherkasy region).

His works include: “Strike of Workers at the South Russian Factory in 1914 in Connection with the Prohibition of Honoring the Memory of Taras Shevchenko” (1948),
“People’s Artist of the USSR N. Uzhviy in the Role of Stekha from the Play by Taras Shevchenko “Nazar Stodolya”” (1957), “Taras Shevchenko is Taken to Exile”,
“Taras Shevchenko in the Barracks of the Novopetrovsk Fortress” (both 1958), “At the Rehearsal of the Play by Taras Shevchenko “Nazar Stodolya”
in the Kiev State Theater named after I. Franko” (1959), “Turtle Seller” (1962), “Taras Shevchenko among the Members of the Cyril and Methodius Society”,
“Taras Shevchenko Receives the Title of Academician” (both 1963), “Taras the Cossack in Kiev” (1964), “Sednev. Twilight” (1965), “Cathedral in Sednev” (1967),
“Catania. In the Distance Etna”, “Florence. Basilica of St. Lorenzo. Morning”, “People’s Artist of the USSR T. Yablonskaya” (all 1977), “People’s Artist of the USSR Y. Lavrov” (1979),
