History reference: The joint-stock company "St. Petersburg Institute of Artificial Mineral Waters" was opened in 1834 during the time of Nicholas I with the support of the Minister of Finance, Count E.F. Kankrin. In fact, it was a spa resort of the 19th century with mineral baths and healing water.

The method of preparing artificial mineral water belongs to the German doctor and pharmacist Adolf Friedrich Struve. It was he who sent his student Joseph Rudolfovich (Hans Rudolf) Herman to Russia. Herman first opened the production of artificial mineral waters in Moscow, then in St. Petersburg.

At first, the Petersburg Institution was located on the outskirts of the city on the territory of the former Mandorov Manor, rented from Countess S. V. Stroganova. This is in the area of ​​​​modern Primorsky Prospekt between the Black River and the New Village. Pharmacists in the institution produced water, the Petersburg nobility, under the supervision of doctors, took the treatment.

In 1843, the plant and the hospital were moved closer to the center to Aleksandrovsky Park, 3. This is on the Petrograd side - a park in which the Gorkovskaya metro station is located. A building was specially built for the institution, which, unfortunately, has not survived to this day. It is known that it was located next to the building of the former Orthopedic Institute.
