About this item

The martyrs Adrian and Natalia (Natalie) were husband and wife from Nicomedia, and they suffered around the turn of the 4th century.

Adrian was a pagan, but when he saw the bravery of the Christian martyrs, he declared himself to be a Christian. For this, he was imprisoned. His wife, Natalia, was secretly a Christian. When she heard that her husband had been taken, she went to visit him in prison. She encouraged him to endure his sufferings for Christ. Adrian was brutally tortured, and died from his torments.

When Natalia heard about Adrian's martyrdom, she recovered his relics and buried them. She reposed in peace soon afterwards, and joined her husband in blessedness.

These special patron saints of married couples, as well as "religiously mixed" marriages, are commemorated on August 26, together with the 33 others martyred with St. Adrian.

This icon is a high-resolution lithography print on hardboard, embellished with light-reflecting gold and silve foil.
