 History reference: Badge of a VI festival of students in Moscow, in 1957. In 1957 participants of a festival in Moscow under the motto "For the World and Friendship!" became 34 thousand people from 131 countries. World Festival of Youth and Students has for the first time passed in 1947. He has been conceived as a festival left youth organizations. Organizers of a festival were World federation of democratic youth (World Federation of Democratic Youth, WFDY) and International union of students (MCC).

Problems of a festival initially were fight for peace, for the rights of youth, for independence of the people, internationalism promotion.

Ideologically the festival had an anti-imperialist focus, showing a role of youth in particular in counteraction of external to policy of the USA, especially in Third World countries. Slogans of a festival several times changed. At first in 1947 it was ""Youth, unite, to future world forward!", in a year which has turned in "Youth, unite, to future world, democracy forward, to national independence and the better future for people", then to 1968 him became "For the world and friendship".
