Iconostasis of the Trinity Cathedral of the Trinity-Sergius Lavra. Sergiev Posad. The series "Famous iconostases of Russia". - Album.
The most recent of Rublev's extant works date back to the second half of the third decade of the XV century, when the artist was already at an advanced age. These are several icons that are part of the iconostasis of the Trinity-Sergius Monastery (Sergiev Posad). According to the testimony of Pakhomiy Logofet, the abbot of this monastery Nikon turned shortly before his death (Nikon died on November 17, 1427) to Daniel and his friend Andrey with a proposal to paint the Trinity Cathedral he had built. Anticipating his imminent demise, he hurried the artists to finish their work. The same Pakhomiy claims that Nikon's hasty order was carried out by the forces of not only Daniel and Andrew, but also "some with them", "with various signatures fertilizing" the church.
