An exquisite Russian Orthodox Icon of St. Alexandra the Queen, handmade by an expert Russian hagiographer. Saint Alexandra of Rome aka the Queen, was a Christian martyr and saint, the wife of Emperor Diocletian. St. Alexandra was secretly converted to Christianity.and when she openly professed her faith during the Martyrdom of St. George, she was imprisoned on her husband’s orders and sentenced to die. Her feast is celebrated on April 23.
Made using traditional materials (selected aged timber frames, egg tempera, 24K gold leaf, natural powder paint and varnishes) and old techniques, this icon is an exact reproduction of an antique Byzantine masterpiece.
